World criminal court sets date for DR Congo hearing

monuc.org: 23/02/2005: "The International Criminal Court is to hold a hearing on March 15 to discuss possible action over massive human rights abuses in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the court said at its headquarters in The Hague. "
Moreno-Ocampo, hoofdaanklager van het ICC (het International Criminal Court dat de Verenigde Staten steevast weigeren te erkennen) zou het ook serieus menen om de rol van de multinationals in het Congo conflict aan te kaarten. Zo blijkt toch uit de eerste speech na zijn benoeming:

"Then he got serious by linking mass killings in The Democratic Republic of Congo to the world of business law. A series of UN reports have alleged that companies in 25 countries, including the UK and the US, have helped fund the crimes taking place in the Congo through the illegal export of natural resources and trade in arms. The banking system, too, is in the dock, accused of helping to fund these illegal business operations.

Moreno-Ocampo maintains that the killing will only stop when this illegal business activity ceases and intends to investigate these companies to ascertain whether any of them should be brought before the ICC."

Zou Verhofstadt dit ook een goed idee vinden? Zijn er ook niet enkele Belgische bedrijfjes die daar momenteel hun zakken goed aan het vullen zijn? Guy, wordt het niet eens tijd om die op hun bloederige poten te tikken?

Congolese handjes ... Finest Belgian Chocolates

Antwerpse handjes zijn - volgens de Antwerpenaren tenminste - een wereldvermaarde delicatesse gemaakt van chocola of amandeldeeg. Zij verwijzen naar "de legende van de reus Druoon Antigoon, die van alle op de Schelde voorbij varende schippers een zware tol eiste. Weigering tot betalen had het afhakken van een hand tot gevolg. Silvius Brabo, een romeins centurio, doodde echter de reus, hakte het gigantische lijk een hand af, en wierp deze in de Schelde (handwerpen)."
Zou dat geen idee zijn, zo'n Congolese Handjes produceren en promoten als Finest Belgian Chocolates om zo de verminking van Het Geheugen van de Congo te counteren?
Politiek correct geschenk ook. 't Zou aan alle staatshoofden die ons land aandoen aangeboden kunnen worden als zoete herinnering waaraan wij Belgen onze welvaart te danken hebben.
